FIRST LINE SUPERVISORS

DESCRIPTION:

First-line supervisors/managers of helpers, laborers, and material movers, hand supervise and coordinate the activities of helpers, laborers, or material movers; they verify work order and schedules, times of shipment and mode of transportation; quote prices to customers and resolve customer complaints; and record information, they assign duties and work schedules. First-line supervisors/managers of helpers, laborers, and material movers also inspect equipment to ensure conformance to standards; observe work procedures and train/instruct workers.

SKILLS:

First-line supervisors/managers of helpers, laborers, and material movers must have the ability to teach, be able to motivate, develop and direct people as they work; be able to coordinate tasks and resources; they must have strong judgment, math and decision-making skills and be able to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
